Synopsis
The Backstory: Dr. Richard Kimble had been convicted of his wife’s murder and sentenced to death, but fate intervened, and he escapes. He spends four years on the run as an interstate fugitive hunted by the obsessed Lieutenant Phillip Gerard. Eventually he finds the one armed man responsible for the murder, and is completely exonerated.
Pieces of a Whole:
For four years Richard Kimble wanted to clear his name, find his wife’s murderer, and stop running, but after a complete exoneration, he is finding life as a free man very difficult. He is used to being hunted like an animal, never settling down, never being able to let his guard down. The exoneration hasn’t changed that.
Although Lt. Gerard is now considered a friend, Kimble is still nervous around police. He is not able to practice medicine any more, and he is haunted by nightmares. Everywhere he goes, people recognize him, talk about the murder, leaving him no comfort. Although he found peace of a sort living with his sister and her family, to heal himself, he must leave, travel from Indiana in order to put the pieces of his shattered life back together.
Richard visits Matt Decker, a journalist who believed in his innocence, and after a quick stop to see the nun Sister Veronica, Kimble finds a small inner city medical clinic where he can act as a janitor. There he meets Olivia Olivetti, the physician in charge, and realizes he can have medicine in his life again, and perhaps love.
His peace there is shattered when Lt. Gerard tells him Helen Kimble’s death was not a random act of violence, that she was deliberately targeted for murder, forcing Richard Kimble and his former hunter Lt. Gerard to work together to discover who wanted Helen dead and why.
